UN Sustainability Goals: No 17 partnership for the goals & No 15 life on land
under_growth is an audio-visual immersive and sculptural mapping — shown together with growth. in this piece we shift our gaze from the blossom to the dark, unseen soil beneath. It explores the roots of sustainable collaboration, celebrating the deep-seated partnership between Slovakia and Norway, as well as the long-term legacy cultivated by Bodø24 and Trencin26.
The UN emphasizes that true partnership is necessary to develop a sustainable future. In this context, culture acts as the fertile soil: it provides a vital foundation for safety and serves as a powerful driving force for change, both locally and globally.
Inspired by the wild flora of the two partner countries, “under_growth” focuses on what happens beneath the surface. While the Norwegian Liverleaf and Slovak Pasque flower share the symbolism of spring, transformation, rebirth, and love, it is their hidden root systems that anchor them in the cold, early-spring earth. These roots represent the growth of trust—the invisible but essential network required to survive harsh conditions and initiate the cycles of growth in nature.
Like human societies, plants collaborate and communicate in the undergrowth through complex electrical and chemical signals. They communicate using their unique frequencies. Research shows how sound at certain frequencies can heal and enhance growth in plants and humans alike.
“Future medicine will be the medicine of frequencies.” — Albert Einstein
The immersive soundscape of “under_growth” translates the hidden conversations of these roots into an auditory and visual experience. It incorporates frequencies that are beneficial for both nature and humanity, using them to nurture the foundational trust required for true partnership.
If the surface shows the flower, the undergrowth holds the truth of its survival. What are the hidden frequencies that anchor our connections? How deep must the roots of trust grow to become a true driving force for change?
