Commissioned for ATFest26, compass is an immersive audio-visual video projection mapping installation by studio blekksprut1, designed for the historical Lecce stone architecture.
Inspired by the artistic legacy of Giancarlo Moscara, compass reinterprets the concept of the “Punti Cardinali” (Cardinal Points) not merely as navigation tools, but as a metaphysical bridge between our physical landscape and the inner human experience. By projecting onto the golden-hued Lecce stone—a material synonymous with divine grace and Southern Italian light—the installation transforms architectural history into a living, luminous canvas.
At its core, compass is an inquiry into our path forward. Utilizing the symbolic imagery of the poppy—representing fertility and the cycles of the earth—and the bee—a tireless worker for biodiversity, community, and hope—the work highlights the delicate balance between nature and society. compass serves as a symbolic guide, challenging both the individual and the collective to navigate toward a more sustainable future, urging the audience to reflect: do we have the right orientation to protect our biodiversity and ensure a thriving planet?
