super_sluser is a site-specific tribute to Skien’s deep-rooted connection to its waterways and the iconic sluser (canal locks). As the historic gateway to the Telemark Canal, Skien’s locks have long symbolized engineering marvels that connected isolated communities and fueled regional innovation.

Reflecting on UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), the artwork bridges this aquatic heritage with our future. Just as the physical locks were built to safely elevate vessels through challenging landscapes, super_sluser explores how modern urban spaces can elevate their inhabitants—transforming cities into inclusive, resilient hubs of innovation that prioritize both human well-being and ecological balance.
