de:lux

de:LUX is a creative new Audio and Visual catalyst that enables the fast prototyping of creative ideas by artists embedded in archives through non-competitive collaboration.

The platform and network was initiated with #OPSTARTfunding and continued with support by Nordic Culture Fund, Nordic Culture Point, The Norwegian Art Council & Creative Europe.

blekksprut1/factory light festival in collaboration with Einkofi Productions, Iceland are proud to present de:LUX, a new platform for developing cross-sector collaborations between the heritage and AV creative community. It is a series of non-competitive collaborative creative events taking place in the Nordics, where visual and sonic artists from the two or more countries are partnered up to deliver a time-bound light and sound installation challenge over 48 hours, resulting in a guerrilla light trail through unique locations in each town.

The aim is to provide artist mobility experiences, enable skill-sharing and hands on experience with new technologies, build new opportunities for artists to create silo-breaking work and put the focus back on creative ideas over and above expensive equipment. At its core is using modern digital creative technology as tools rather than the medium and the mantra forged by the Kino-Kabaret film movement “Do well with nothing, do better with little, but do it now!” – that means to realise creative ideas, without any budget and within a very short time constraint.

The first edition of the platform, was timed to coincide with two major winter festivals in both countries the project will invite projection artists (animators, mappers, projection specialists) from Factory Light Festival (blekksprut1) in Norway to Iceland to collaborate with Einkofi’s community of Icelandic musicians. Prior to the project kick-off the production team has cleared a series of locations for guerrilla light and sound installations across the host city, the Audio and Visual artists will then go through a brief matchmaking exercise to create an Icelandic/Norwegian team before drawing one of the pre-prepared locations from a hat which will become their challenge canvas for the weekend. The teams then have 48 hours to create an all new intervention for exhibition as part of a guerrilla lighting trail – drawing on whatever resources they can muster from their own networks, suppliers, family, friends and their de:LUX peers.

This Nordic collaboration project  is expanding and artists and partners based in Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Estonia are included.
